Updates - 8-7-23

-Official practices begin this Monday! All athletes must have the parent and athlete registrations completed along with a current physical uploaded to Final Forms to participate in practice. Runners with incomplete registrations or missing physicals are not allowed to practice with the team.

-Sunday, August 6th Running Lab in downtown Brighton will be hosting their cross country kick off expo at their store from 12-4 p.m. They'll have giveaways and will be offering a one day only 15% discount for athletes. This is a great opportunity to support a local business and get the new shoes and/or spikes needed for the season.

-Team pictures are this Wednesday, the 9th. Athletes need to meet in the grassy area near the field house parking lot (the Grassy Knoll) at 2:30. Pre-orders are made through VSNMichigan.com. Runners need to wear their black running/racing shorts and wear the White Bulldog singlet. Singlets will be distributed to athletes that have not already selected their uniform.

-The Camp Time Trial is this Friday at Huron Meadows. The top 25 fastest times between the July Time Trial and Camp Time Trial will receive the initial invites to Team Camp. 2023 Team Camp Info

-Last Tuesday was the BXC Parent Meeting. The Program Philosophy, Training Philosophy, Team Rules and Letter Requirements, Parent Info (great for parents new to BXC and/or new to the sport), and other documents discussed at the parent meeting are linked here. A couple things to note:

-All athletes new to BXC must purchase a pair of team shorts for $20.

-All athletes need a watch to time themselves. They should have their watch everyday.

-Transportation fee will be posted to Final Forms once rosters are finalized.

-We had 20 athletes volunteer their time to help remove invasive weeds at the Brighton Rec Area. Their efforts will help ensure that native plant species aren't choked out at our parks. The next opportunity to give back is Monday, the 14th at Huron Meadows. Details to come.

-Our DNR host made a point of reminding the team that it's a good idea to complete thorough tick checks after spending time working or running through the woods. Lyme disease is spread by ticks that are about the size of the text on a dime. Symptoms include a bull's-eye rash (but not always), fatigue, joint pain, and weakness. Any unexplained fever that includes a headache and neck/joint pain should be assessed for Lyme disease.

-Our dual meet with Pinckney next Friday at Manly W. Bennett Park will have a 10 a.m. race start.
